Fire risk assessments

Are you responsible for a building, for example a employer, owner or occupier of premises that aren’t a ‘single private dwelling’ (a private home)? If so, a Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement, and you need to make sure a suitably competent person completes one on your behalf. We can complete the assessment for you, identifying fire risks and hazards in your premises and recommending appropriate action.

Risk assessments

As an employer, you’re required by law to protect your employees, and others, from harm.  The minimum you must do is:

  • Identify what could cause injury or illness in your business (hazards)
  • Decide how likely it is that someone could be harmed and how seriously (the risk)
  • Take action to eliminate the hazard, or if this isn’t possible, control the risk.

We can help assess the risks appropriate to your business and recommend suitable control measures.  We can also provide guidance on undertaking assessments yourselves, together with a set of Risk Assessment templates and tools to help you manage your works.

Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) assessments

The law requires organisations to adequately control exposure to materials in the workplace that cause ill health. This is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and covers substances could be dusts, gases or fumes that you breathe in, or liquids, gels or powders that come into contact with your eyes or skin.

We can help you identify the health hazards for the substances you use based on the way you use them and provide a COSHH assessment with control measures to minimise any harm to health.

Dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres regulations (DSEAR)

As part of your work, do you use any dangerous substance that could be a risk to the safety of people as a result of fires, explosions (including through dust formation) or through corrosion to metal?  If so, you are required to assess the risks of fires and explosions that may be caused by dangerous substances in the workplace.  We can undertake these assessments for you and suggest approaches to eliminate or reduce the risk.

Management standards – ISO 45001 Health & Safety and ISO 9001 Quality

Looking to demonstrate your Organisation’s compliance with Health & Safety Law?  If your organisation already has a developed health and safety management structure, then it may be appropriate for you to adopt the ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management Standard.  We can support you through the steps to get you fully ready to meet the standard and undertake the formal audit as part of the assessment process.

Similarly, if you are looking to demonstrate your Organisation’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement, then the most widely recognised standard is ISO 9001 and we can help you through the preparation and audit process.

Accreditations – e.g. Common Assessment Standard (CAS), Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP)

Whether you are looking for a formal recognition of your Organisation’s systems and don’t want to adopt the full ISO approach, or you have been asked by a client to gain a specific accreditation, we can help you put the necessary procedures and documentation in place and support you through the application process.

Pre-qualification questionnaires & tenders

If you are applying to be placed on a list of approved suppliers for a client or bid for specific works through a tendering process, you will likely be required to complete a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) or tender document.

We can assist with completion of these documents and in identifying/producing suitable supporting evidence for your application.
